The thrill of the hunt.  That’s how it all began.

Throughout his life there have been many mornings when Sam Henderson, Jr. headed out early across the rolling hills of the family ranch to find the perfect location shrouded by the mesquite and live oak trees of the area.  From this vantage point he’d wait for a buck to pass within his sights.  And many times it did.

In 1995 he decided to share these hunting opportunities with the public and so was born Mesquite River Outfitters.  Mesquite River Outfitters hunts approximately 10,000 acres of land on the Henderson Family ranches located in Schleicher County, Texas. The ranches have been in the Henderson family for over 120 years and have received recognition from the Texas Land Heritage program.  The buck to doe ratio of the ranches is 1:3, and the success rate of past hunters has been 99%.

In addition to the scruffed up body, this buck had 3 broken tines.  
The  other buck, a 10 point, had half of a main beam broken off.  Unfortunately we couldn't get his picture.

Each Hunt Includes:

  • All meals provided by our cook
  • Transportation to and from camp to the hunting site
  • Lodge with comfortable motel-style rooms
